WHATS NEW IN WINRAR 4.20 FINAL?
Edition 4.20
1. Changes in RAR compression:
a) RAR common pressure formula is enhanced for better
utilization of several processer cores. While some rate gain
is possible even in individual processer method, best results
are obtained in multi-core atmosphere.
Speed obtain relies on information type and regular quality.
Several cores are used more effectively when compressing
large information files.
b) we had to increase storage specifications to accomplish higher
compression rate. General RAR pressure formula allocates
about 120 MB evaluating to 40 MB in WinRAR 4.11;
c) RAR written text pressure formula cannot implement several CPU cores
efficiently, so its performance in multiprocessor environment
is much reduced than for common formula. Also its decompression
speed is much reduced than in common formula regardless of
CPU variety. So we made the decision to turn off the writing formula by standard.
If you need highest possible possible pressure rate for simply written text data
regardless of rate, you can allow the writing compression
in "Advanced pressure parameter" dialogue. Media "Compression..."
button on "Advanced" page of preserving dialogue to accessibility it.
You can also change this option completely in standard compression
profile;
In the control line method the writing pressure can be enabled
with -mct switch;
d) "Fastest" (-m1) pressure method also facilitates several processor
cores now. In 4.11 it could use only only one processer primary.
2. RAR common decompression formula rate is a little bit enhanced,
though not to same level as RAR pressure. RAR decompression
is not able to use several processer cores, so its performance
does not rely on a variety of cores.
3. Changes in ZIP compression:
a) now ZIP pressure facilitates several processer cores resulting
in clearly greater performance in multi-core atmosphere.
Single CPU ZIP pressure is also quicker than in 4.11;
b) storage use for ZIP pressure is improved to about 15 MB.
